TITUS ANDRONICUS
STRAIGHT OUTTA GLEN ROCK
Titus Andronicus “Titus Andronicus” (link to mp3)
If you haven’t heard of Titus Andronicus (the band, not the Shakespeare thingy) then you probably will have by the end of 2009. The band’s well-received 2008 release, The Airing of Grievances is going to get re-released by XL Recordings, home of such breakout acts such as M.I.A. and Vampire Weekend.
And this band deserves all of the attention that they’ll get. Their music would make good montage music, especially their self-titled song, “Titus Andronicus”. I’d reccomend them to fans of The Thermals, because that’s what other blogs do, and because I’m really just too damn lazy to come up with a better comparison. I suppose Black Lips would work, too.
I’ve also heard nothing but good things about their live show. You can be cool like me, and catch them on January 14th, at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, along with Spider Bags and fellow New Jersey buzz band Vivian Girls. If you’re busy that night, they’re playing two consecutive nights on Feburary 14th & 15th. One of those days is Valentine’s Day, if you have a special someone who thinks a romantic night consists of beer, loud punk and sweat-soaked beards.
